Hoa Lu was in Xth century a capital of Dinh and Le thereafter. Just like Thâng Long and Co Loa, it was built on the traditional model of the Sino-vietnameses citadels: a royal city and its temple surrounded by ramparts with, in their center, the imperial residence.
