Hanoi in opposition to its rival of the south, Saigon, remains the historical heart of the nation with 3,5 million inhabitants. Activate, over-populated, with multiples small trade installed in the pavement, it offers a considerable artistic inheritance. Hanoi remains, for Vietnam, a symbol of resistance against the occupants: initially in 1945 against French, then in 1954, when after the Geneva agreements, it became the capital of North-Vietnam whereas the South was to be placed under the protection of the United States.
