Built in 1883, it was during a time, the longest suspension bridge of the world (1186 meters), didn't it represent the American dream, the heroic gate of New York? Twenty workmen died during his construction, its architect had the crushed foot and died three weeks, carried later by gangrene; one does not count any more the suicides.
