New York

New York is composed of five boroughs but often the name " New York " indicates Manhattan very precisely, that the New-Yorkers themselves name the "City " in opposition to boroughs Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens, which constitute with Staten Island the large New York. Only Bronx forms part of the continent, the four others boroughs are islands.
New York was founded into 1625 by the Dutchmen, and counts today 7,3 millions inhabitants (18 millions with the suburbs). With the exception of Greenwich Village, of which the interlacing of the streets evokes the complexity of the European cities, Manhattan offers the aspect of an urban checkerwork common to the American cities.
