Close to the district of Wall Street, the district of South Street Seaport became at the same time a historical reference and a tourist center. During two centuries, the quays represented the harbour of New York, where accosted the sailing ships. Steamboats, then transatlantics having gone to berth in the west of Manhattan. The influence of Wall Street helping, it falls into the lapse of memory. The promoters succeeded in making these quays a living museumof the past.
