On the site where Charles IV made build, at the 14th century, its large cathedral, had risen a Romaneque rotunda before, then a basilica. The first architect, Matthieu d'Arras, began the building while being inspired by the plan of the cathedral of Narbonne in France. It is its successor Petr Parér, who brought the last touch to the Gothic chorus.
