Colombo (2 million inhabitants) is the capital and the first port of Sri Lanka. The old and the modern, the tradition and progress, the East and the Occident, made Colombo a cosmopolitan city. Approximately 80% of its inhabitants are real Cinghalais, mainly of bouddhic confession, the remainder of the population is made up of Tamils, Indians, Arabs, Chinese man, European and mixed race.
