Saint-Louis - At the mouth of the Senegal river, in front of the Atlantic Ocean, Saint-Louis remains fixed in another century. Its name was given to it into 1659 by the clerk Louis Caullier in homage to king of France Louis XIII. Quickly, Saint-Louis became the first European fortified town in Africa. In 1883, the completion of the railroad which connected it with Dakar marked its apogee.
