Joal-Fadiout


Crosses strew the island in shells, sparkling of whiteness. It is about the cemetery dominated by a calvary from where one overhangs Joal, Fadiout, the mangrove swamp and lofts on pile. Joal, fatherland of Senghor, stretch its old houses with floors, between the sea and a backwater bordered with hillocks of shells. Piled up during centuries, they form monticules of 7 or 8 m thickness.
