Nazaré


Nazaré became famous in the whole world because of one image, that of the oxen yokings which draw the fishing boats in order to bring them on sand. The fishermen with the tanned complexion, bearing trousers with squares and bonnets with point, are accompanied with women not carrying less than seven lace underskirts. This antiquated spectacle, the xávega, is maintained at tourist ends, because since the construction of the new port, the fishermen do not need more oxen.
