Lima on the Pacific, counts eight million inhabitants today. As everywhere else in the Third World, the visitor is struck by the cohabitation between small islands with noisy richness and shantytowns without water nor electricity. The population increases by 250 000 people per annum, mainly of the poor peasants, fleeing the misery of the sierra.
