Samarkand - This fabulous oasis of the Kyzyl Koum borders did not cease dazzling the travellers. Samarkand was the crossroads of the various branches of the Road Silk, that of the west towards Persia, that of the east towards China, and that of the south towards India. The Macedonian Alexander the Great, the Mongol Gengis Khan were his conquerors, and Tamerlane made of it a capital whose audacious domes and the blue mosaics cause today still the admiration of the travellers.
