P atan
Patan - Contrary to Kathmandu, at the same time Hinduist and Buddhist, and to Bhaktapur, primarily of Hinduist religion, Patan is especially a Buddhist city. According to legends, the city would have been founded by the Buddhist emperor Ashoka (268-233 BC) and by his Carumati daughter. The legend says that Ashoka would have built a stupa in the centre, and four others stupas in the four corners of the city. |
