São Roque de Faial


The church of São Roque de Faial. In the XVIIth century, the viticulture becomes the first activity of the island. In 1614, Madeira counts close to 30000 inhabitants of which 3000 slaves. It is to this time that the inhabitants begin to emigrate toward Brazil.
