The Bridge of Sighs (in renovation) was built in 1602 to connect the Doge's Palace with the New Jail constructed (and ended in 1614) by Antonio da Ponte. The name The Bridge of Sighs suggests the sigh expressed by prisoners led in front of the judges, during their last glance on Venice.
