Palermo
Palermo, the capital of Sicily, is nested in the hollow of a bay, at the foot of Monte Pellegrino. Its name comes from the sea. Phenicians baptized it Panormos or "port". The city, prosperous at the Roman time, knew its true golden age under the Arab domination, when it competed of beauty with Cordoba and Cairo.
