Thermae of Caracalla. These thermae form the most important unit and best preserved buildings of this type under the Empire. Started into 212 AD with the Caracalla emperor, they were completed by Alexander Severe (222-235). Restored under Aurelian, Diocletian, Theodoric, they ceased functioning into 537, when Vitigès and its Goths ransacked the aqueducts.
