Agra
Agra (1 million inhabitants) is one of the main cities of the state of Uttar Pradesh located at 200 km of Delhi. Present Agra was founded under the Mogul era into 1566 by Akbar of which he made its capital. Under the reign of its grandson Shahjahan (XVIIth century), the splendour of the city reaches its apogee. Aurangzeb transferred the capital to Delhi. The city was conquered in 1761 by Jats and 1779 by Marathes. In 1803 it was occupied by the Englishmen. |
