Abu Simbel
The two temples of Abu Simbel were dug in Nubian sandstone cliff under Ramesses' II commands (1301-1235 before Christ). Whereas the small temple is dedicated to the Hathor goddess and to Nefertari, the favourite wife of Ramesses II, the Large Temple is devoted to the three main gods of the time: the sun god Horakhty, Amon of Karnak and Ptah of Memphis, without forgetting the king himself adored in this place like a god. |
