Santiago de Chile
Santiago de Chile - The capital of Chile was founded by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541 at the foot of Cerro Huelén which the Spaniards rename Santa Lucia. The city is rebuilt at the same place according to the colonial habit to develop the city around a central square called Plaza de Armas, traditional place of the military parades, the small trade and the public executions. The seisms of 1647 and 1730 destroyed the city. Today the agglomeration of Santiago de Chile counts nearly 6 million inhabitants.
